Danger signs during Pregnancy

CALL YOUR DOCTOR OR MATERNITY WARD IF YOU HAVE THE FOLLOWING:-

  1. Pain or burning on urination
  2. This could mean a urinary tract infection or a sexually transmitted disease.

  3. Leaking or gushing of fluid from the vagina
  4. This could mean a rupture of the amniotic membranes or “bag of waters.”

  5. Vaginal bleeding to any degree
  6. This could signal a miscarriage, premature labour, placenta previa or abruptio placenta.

  7. Blister or sore in the vaginal area, vaginal irritation, itching or unusual discharge
  8. This may mean a vaginal infection or a sexually transmitted disease.

  9. Uterine contractions more than four or five in an hour when you are not near your due date
  10. This may mean premature labour or a threatened miscarriage.

  11. Severe nausea and vomiting several times in an hour or over several days
  12. This may indicate an infection, hyperemesis gravidarum or another medical illness.

  13. Severe abdominal pain
  14. This may mean an ectopic (tubal) pregnancy, abruptio placenta, or premature labor

  15. Chills and fever over 37 degrees Centigrade not accompanied by a common cold
  16. This may indicate the presence of an infection.

  17. Dizziness or light-headedness
  18. This may signal toxemia

  19. Severe headaches that don’t subside, especially in the second half of the pregnancy
  20. This may signal toxemia

  21. Swelling of the face, eyes, fingers or toes, especially if sudden
  22. This may signal toxemia

  23. Sudden weight gain
  24. This may signal toxemia

  25. Visual problems like dimness, blurring, spots, flashes or blind spots
  26. This may signal toxemia

  27. Noticeably reduced fetal movement for more than one day
  28. This may indicate fetal distress

  29. Absence of fetal movement for 10hours or more from the 30th week and beyond
  30. This may indicate fetal death

  31. A hot, reddened painful area behind your knee or on your calf
  32. This may indicate phlebitis (a blood clot in a vein)
